Having a teacher for a mother definitely has its perks! I grew up in the classroom, which is one of the main reasons why I want to be a teacher. I used to go to my old elementary school, where my mom teaches, every day after middle and high school. I would read to the kindergarten, or help teachers set up bulletin boards or grade tests, I was up for ANYTHING! My mom's friends, my old teachers, loved when I visited, because I did their work for them, and I loved it! Ever since I started commuting to college, however, I became so busy, I no longer has as much free time to pop in and say hi, or read a story to the kids. There was a period of time, where I could walk down the halls, and all of the kids knew me as Mrs. Cristantiello's daughter. They would wave and say hi, and it made me feel so special! I definitely miss those days...A lot. But now that I am in my second year of college, I have begun my field observations in a first grade classroom. Of course, I am LOVING it! I missed being in a classroom surrounded by little kids who are eager to learn. Also, it feels great when the call me Miss C.! I am so lucky to have a great cooperating teacher, too! She has already given me tons of advice, as well as tips and tricks on keeping the class well managed. I have been there once, and I have already witnessed what a phenomenal teacher she is! She has even given me the opportunity to work with groups of kids, and teach lessons! I have so many fun activities planned, I just can't wait! Getting excited about all of this helps me realize I know I want to be a teacher!
Lesson Learned:
I definitely picked the right career choice!
